Project Details

The Delaware Family Courthouse located in Kent County has extensive jurisdiction over all domestic matters in the State of Delaware. Unfortunately for the Courthouse, they also had a failing plumbing system as well. For some time, the staffers at the courthouse weren't able to use the bathroom facilities dedicated to them. Frequent back ups due to infiltration of roots, minor cracks, and a pipe belly plagued the building.

The Director of Engineering for the state looked into alternatives for fixing approximately 150 feet of 6 inch drain piping because they did not have the option of digging the floor in the courthouse. He came across pipe lining and continued his extensive research.

Originally, the use of cured in place pipe (CIPP) for the pipe lining of the drain lines seemed to be the best approach. Quickly it was determined the reinstatements of the connecting laterals posed great concern to the success of the project. The CIPP installers could easily become overly cautious during the drilling out of the reinstatements and leave excess material that would catch debris, creating a catalyst for future backups. On the other hand, installers could be too aggressive and further damage the existing piping system.

Remarkably, the Belco team could offer the perfect solution. Belco's unique ability to offer CIPP and Spincast gave the client the confidence that regardless of the circumstances the Belco team could handle the job and timeframe parameters. Belco's Spray-in-place-pipe/spincast system was the perfect for this pipe-lining project because there would be no need for reinstatements.

The Belco Team was required to complete this work during off peak weekend hours for the Family Courthouse. Additionally, the Belco Team encountered a different piping layout than the blueprints showed. Since the Belco Team travels with two mobile workstations, equipment redundancy, and multiple pipe lining methods, they are able to solve most problems on-site without delay to the project or additional cost to the client. Even with the new set of parameters discovered on-site, the Belco team worked throughout the night and completed the job on time and on budget.
